We stock and install FAAC-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Hempstead, with most fabricated hinge repairs, cracked weld re-welds, and broken bracket replacements running between $220 and $480 installed, depending on the part and the extent of the fabrication. Same-day service is available when the failure is clear-cut and we have the part on the truck, which is most hinge, bracket, and mount jobs. The way most Hempstead homeowners discover a welding failure is simple: the gate starts to droop, scrape, or lean, and what looks like an alignment problem turns out to be a fatigue crack or a torn weld at a pivot point.
Carver Gate Repair Hempstead is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with FAAC, but we work on FAAC swing and slide operators week in and week out, and we know which welds fail on which models and why. Lonnie Burke and our crew have repaired and re-fabricated FAAC gate hardware all over Hempstead, including plenty of properties around the Hofstra University area. If the gate’s not right, we’re not done.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
FAAC swing operators, including the 400, 402, 412, 415, 422, 750, 760, 770, C720, C721, S418, S450, and S700 series, all rely on fabricated and welded steel components: hinge plates, gate brackets, post plates, articulating arm mounts, and rack mounts for slide gates. The welding and fabrication work we do matters for every one of them, because the cast aluminum operator housings FAAC uses are bolted to steel hardware that gets welded or bolted to the gate and post. When the weld fails, the operator gets blamed, but the real fault is almost always the steel underneath it.
Identifying the right part starts with the label on the operator, which lists the model and serial number. The weld location matters more than the model for fabrication decisions. A torn weld at the gate hinge of a 750 in Hempstead needs the same repair approach as a torn weld at the hinge of a 400: grind out the crack, clean the surface, weld it properly, and add a gusset or reinforcement plate if the original design was underbuilt for the gate’s weight. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for FAAC specifically: FAAC’s own fabricated brackets and hinge plates are well-made, but many of the aftermarket equivalents sold online are thinner gauge steel than the original. We have pulled aftermarket hinge plates off gates that bent after two winters. We fabricate most of our replacement brackets in-house from steel matched to or heavier than FAAC’s original spec. If the part is a bolt-on bracket we can source from FAAC, we use it. If the original design keeps failing, we modify the next one so it does not.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate droops at the latch end and drags on the closing side. A hinge weld or hinge plate has stretched or cracked. The operator still pushes, but the gate sags because the pivot point is no longer square to the post. In Hempstead’s freeze-thaw cycles, water that gets into a microcrack expands and widens it over every winter.
- Visible crack or rust line running along a weld bead. This is the failure announcing itself before the part lets go. A rust line along the edge of a weld on a FAAC hinge means moisture has penetrated the joint. The crack will propagate. It always does on Long Island, where salt air and wet winters accelerate steel fatigue.
- Gate makes a popping or clicking sound at one point in its travel. A cracked weld flexes as the gate moves, and the flex creates the noise. The same symptom also shows up at the articulating arm pivot on FAAC swing operators. Our technicians locate it by watching the joint while the gate cycles, not by guessing.
- Operator runs but the gate barely moves, or stalls mid-cycle. The motor is working against a gate that is bound at a failed pivot. Owners sometimes replace the operator first, then find the gate still does not move properly because the broken weld was the actual problem.
- Mounting plate or post bracket has pulled away from the concrete or masonry. The failure is usually in the anchors or the substrate behind the plate, not the weld itself, but the fix still falls under fabrication: fabricate a larger plate, re-anchor it with stronger hardware, and re-weld the mount. We see this regularly on older Hempstead properties where gate posts predate the operator by decades.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Hempstead homeowners, expect the following installed ranges on FAAC fabrication work. A single cracked hinge or bracket weld re-welded in place runs $220 to $320. A fabricated replacement bracket or hinge plate, custom-cut and welded, runs $280 to $480 when we make it ourselves, more if we need to remove the gate from the post to get the geometry right. Removing a gated leaf to a flat work surface, jigging it, welding multiple joints, and rehanging it typically lands between $500 and $900 depending on gate weight and access.
The range is driven by three things: how much of the old weld has to be ground out, whether the gate must come down to do the work correctly, and whether the part needs custom fabrication or a stock replacement works. Every job we quote in Hempstead includes the same written price before work starts, so the number does not move once we open the job. The repair carries our written guarantee for a full year. If the repair fails inside that window, we come back at no charge. That is the Garrison Standard, and it is on paper.
DIY or Call Us?
If you want to diagnose before calling, there are two things you can do safely. First, with the operator disconnected or the gate in manual mode, push the gate by hand through its full travel and feel for binding, popping, or visible movement at the hinge welds and bracket mounts. Second, look for rust lines, hairline cracks, or daylight between a bracket and the post it sits against. What you should not do is weld this yourself. Welding a gate while it is still hanging puts you under load, and a gate that shifts during the work can hurt you badly. Grinding and welding on galvanized steel also produces fumes you do not want to breathe without proper ventilation and protection. The right weld on a gate is not a bead laid over a crack; it is a prepared joint with the crack removed and the parent metal clean. We do this work with the gate properly supported and the geometry checked before and after. Call (516) 559-4870 and we will walk you through what you are seeing before we ever dispatch a truck.
FAQs
In Hempstead’s coastal climate, the original fabricated steel on a FAAC operator typically lasts 8 to 15 years before cracks or corrosion take hold, depending on exposure, gate weight, and how often the gate cycles. A properly prepared and re-welded joint with the right corrosion treatment afterward can outlast the original. Gate weight is the variable that shortens lifespan the most; a gate that is heavier than the operator’s rating stresses every weld on the system.
Sometimes yes, if the crack is caught early and the surrounding metal is still sound. The crack has to be ground out to clean metal, not simply covered, because welding over a crack leaves the failure underneath to keep growing. When the part is thin, rusted through, or already repaired once, we fabricate a replacement instead. The decision is made after we clean the area and see what is left.
A single weld repair or bracket swap on a FAAC operator in Hempstead is usually done in 90 minutes to 3 hours. If the gate leaf needs to come down for jigging and multiple welds, plan on a half-day to a full day. We tell you the timeline when we give you the written price.
We stock common FAAC hinge plates, gate brackets, post plates, and steel stock for fabrication on most of our Hempstead trucks, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your part is specific to an unusual FAAC series, we can usually source or fabricate it within one to two business days. Call (516) 559-4870 with your model number and we will tell you what is on the truck before we arrive. Estimates are free, and the price is written before work starts.
